First, we’ve changed our pricing categories, making them more beneficial and customer-friendly; All ball-and-burlapped trees, evergreens and shrubs will be priced in quantities of 1 to 3, 4 to 23, and 24+. This new system gives you our best rate if you purchase fewer plants. And don’t forget about our rebate plan. Become one of our customers who looks forward to a nice once-a-year check each September.
Expanding to meet your needs, we’ve added another 20 acres to Kankakee Nursery; giving us more than 3000 acres. To match consumer trends, we are producing even more trees in containers. You will find our new varieties marked throughout the catalog, giving you a bigger and better selection.
Also, this year we increased our staking mechanization for better production. This equipment allows us to stake a larger percentage of trees, ensuring straight trunks. And each year, Kankakee makes investments in harvesting equipment so we can ship your nursery stock on schedule.
We are converting our original container area from overhead watering to a highly efficient drip irrigation system. When this modernization is complete, our entire 60-plus acre container operation will be under drip irrigation. Not only is this new system environmentally responsible, it gives us better control and gives our customers a more consistent product.
Experimental work continues at Kankakee to improve products and methods for the green industry. Several major chemical companies have come to us to conduct trials for new herbicides and our own research and tests are ongoing. We constantly look at new pesticides, fertility programs and integrated pest management to better our work—and make your work easier, more cost-effective and productive.
